General Meeting 5th July 2005:
The General Meeting held at Cavendish Community Church was once again well attended. As usual we were pleased to have with us Town, District and County Councillors. We were pleased to welcome and introduce to members the two new County Councillors, Mrs Ann Rodwell and Mr Graham Newman. Graham hopes to be able to attend our meetings in order to update and inform us of the workings of SCC.
The Community Police Officer, PC Jim Kerr, was unable to attend on the night but did come to the committee meeting the night before, so I was able to give the meeting his update. Two points to be aware of:
1 - Handbag and purse theft is a problem in Felixstowe, so tell your mum to be extra careful, especially in charity shops as that's where these criminals target. They do also take wallets, so men beware also.
2 - Look out for a RED MOTORCROSS CR250 motorcycle; report it to the community police if you spot it. Tele. 01473 383351.
Cllr Ninnmey gave an update on Town and District Council matters, of main concern is the threatened closure of, either or both, the Felixstowe General and the Bartlet. Mr M Sharman proposed the following proposition: "This General Meeting of the Cavendish Park Community Association pledges wholehearted support for the campaign to save from closure the Felixstowe General and Bartlet Hospitals which are used by many thousands of people from Felixstowe and district. Their services should be extended and improved to support the growing area, take pressure off Ipswich Hospital and provide modern health services for the people of the Felixstowe area". This was passed unanimously and has been sent to the Town Council and forwarded to SHA and Suffolkeast PCT.

Refreshments were served and an enjoyable evening was had with the opportunity to meet old and make new friends.
Summer Fete 2005:
The community Summer Fete' held at The Firs, on the 16th July was a great success. The weather was brilliant, the crowds were there and every one I spoke to said they had had a good time.
It was opened at 2pm by the winners of our community competition - held in conjunction with Grange C P School- Amber Jennings, Megan & Paige Payne and the winner of our Logo competition Sophie Steele (who also won the Felixstowe Carnival Theme competition).

There was plenty to do. Magic Show (which the children loved), Refreshments, BBQ, Music, Coconut Shy, a Bar (courtesy of The Ordinance Hotel), Tombola, Raffles and many stalls and games.

Coming Meetings of interest:
The next meeting of the Felixstowe Finance & General Purposes Committee will be 21st September @ 7.30pm. They will discuss, amongst other things, a letter from the Association with regard to the deteriorating quality of life, because of increasing environmental pollution, affecting West Ward
The public are allowed to go and listen but not take part; still they can see you are keeping an eye on them (councillors that is).
A public meeting regarding the proposed changes to our health services will be held on 30th September 2pm @ the Elizabeth Orwell Hotel, this will be chaired by John Gummer MP. Show your objection to the PCTs proposals by turning up in great numbers and challenging their conclusions ie. that patient care will not suffer if hospitals are closed, beds, minor injuries units and theatres are closed, and the Mental Health Support structure is decimated.
General Meeting 1st March 2005:
To those who attended, thank you for braving the weather and dragging yourselves away from "EastEnders" omnibus edition and the football, what would we do without VCRs. It was a good turn out and it appeared everyone found it interesting and enjoyable. It was very nice to see Sophie Steele, the winner of our logo competition, her mum and sister there. We had some new members join on the night so our membership is steadily rising.
We also welcomed a number of guests from the newly formed Orwell Green Residents Association.
Our thanks go to PC Dave Gledhill for an informative presentation on policing in our area and we wish a warm welcome to Amy Wilding one of our new CSOs (Community Support Officers).
Once again we had the pleasure of Dot Paddick, Harry Dangerfield and Mike Ninnmey 3 of our Town & District Councillors plus David Rowe our County Councillor, our thanks to all of them for their worthwhile contribution. We thank David Rowe for funding the lights on Cavendish Park, needed for safety reasons, and for the bus shelter badly needed for protection from the weather. As an election is looming we may see some new councillors at our next meeting and we hope they will give us the same kind of support we have had from our current representatives. Our Association is non-political and we would hope to work with any councillor for the good of not only Cavendish Park but the whole of Felixstowe.
An update was given regarding coming events, a Community prize for a child who attends Cavendish Community Primary School and the Summer Fete' at the Firs. We require volunteers for the Summer Fete' so if you would like to help please ring me on 01394 212490 I can give you more information, also watch this site.
The social part of the evening went very well, apart from one of the councillors being the winner of the first prize in the raffle - a Hamper - 4 other prizes were also won. Wendy Smith won the Fun quiz, the prize being a food voucher kindly donated by the Ipswich & Norwich Co-operative Society, our thanks go to them.
Our thanks go to Cavendish Community Church for allowing us to use their premises and my personal thanks go to all of the committee and our members for making the evening a success.
The meeting closed at 9-30pm.
